Dove DermaCare to the rescue!

I can’t be the only person who goes a few days without washing their hair and has issues with a dry scalp and even flakes! YIKES! Right? I’ve tried other products and they all still left me with a dry scalp. I finally hit the jackpot when I tried Dove DermaCare Scalp series of shampoos and conditioners. At least for me, I need a shampoo and conditioner that will leave my hair feeling moisturized while I go a few days without a wash. No one wants to be that person with flakes, I mean, come on, that’s not very flattery or comfortable.

I’m also big on scents, I tried the three different kinds below and they all smell amazing but the one I loved the most was the Invigorating Mint, smells like mint & cucumbers to me, which is my favorite!!

I even bring these in my gym bag so when I shower at the gym, I don’t go without.

Invigorating Mint, linked here.

Quenches dry hair with a refreshing mint effect while leaving hair smooth and free flowing.  Ph  Balanced.

Pure Daily Care, linked here.

Fresh rosemary scent, provides strands with a burst of freshness and nourishment. No visible flakes with use. Ph Balanced.

Dryness & Itch Relief, linked here.

Coconut and shea butter formula that helps hydrate a dry scalp, relieves scalp irritation while leaving hair smooth. Ph Balanced.

I tried the shampoo and conditioner out for a week and it’s made my hair feel nourished and fresh. I think having soft, freshly scented clean hair has to be one of the best feelings when getting out of the shower. With the NEW Dove DermaCare Scalp series you will get 100% flake free* hair, 100% nourishment, zero compromise!

I know we all need to take a little time out of the week to pamper ourselves, make sure you don’t forget to pamper your hair as well. It’s something everyone sees and at least for me it’s so important to me for my hair to stay healthy and for my scalp to stay moisturized!

This post was sponsored by Dove but all options and thoughts are 100% mine. I’ve used Dove products for years and will continue and someday pass down to my children. I truly love how all Dove products make my skin, hair and body feel! Thank you for stopping by and I hope you try their New DermaCare Scalp series soon, you won’t regret pampering your hair and scalp — trust me!

February Box Reviews

I’ve been really meaning to do this blog post for awhile now and finally am! I am going to review my 3 beauty boxes I received this month. I subscribe to Sephora Play, Ipsy and I sometimes purchase Target’s Beauty Box.  Below you’ll find my reviews of some products and my overall thoughts on the boxes themselves!

Ipsy Glam Bag

$10 monthly; Click here to sign up.

(When I was typing this, it kept trying to make Ipsy into Tipsy which I think Ipsy is Tipsy when making their last couple bags)

What I received this month:

Trust Fund Beauty Nailpolish – I’m not a fan of nail polishes in my bag, personally I get my nails done and I’ve always said not to give me these, lol. It’s a gorgeous color tho but again I wish a color would be sent that would fit more people, not everyone can pull off a light blue nail polish. I just know I’m so hard on my nails and I use gel.

Juice Beauty PHYTO-PIGMENTS Last Looks Cream Blush in Flush: I loved this blush! I will be doing a swatch soon. Juice Beauty is always for the win.

NYX Professional Makeup Butter™ Lipstick in Ripe Berry:  I need to try this color on, it looks like a dark brown which really isn’t my color but I’m willing to try. It would be good for Fall. I wish they were sending more Spring colors.

VENeffect Skin Care Anti-Aging Lip Treatment: I’m a sucker for any sort of lip treatments, this has a little bit of plumper in it without the annoying feeling which is good!

Windy Lux Diamond Complexion Powder in Medium: it’s way too sparkly, I would only use this under my eyes and then put my foundation powder over top.

In the summer months is when I love my Ipsy bags more, I tend to feel they send better selections and colors during that season. Ipsy is one of the best with customer service and anytime I needed something they respond very quickly. I am looking forward to their Ipsy event they will be having this summer – I missed it last year and was bummed out. If you’ve been leave me a comment cause I heard its amazing and so fun meeting other brands.

I won’t cancel my subscription ever with Ipsy even if sometimes I don’t like my bags – the products I don’t like I give to friends who love or I make cute mini travel gift bags which is great to give to someone as well. For the $10 it’s worth it in the end.

Sephora Play

$10 a month, click here to sign up.

What I received this month:

NARS Velvet Lip Glide; Rose Pink: Ok, um I’m in love – Anything NARS — yes sign me up. Not only is the packaging so sleek, the color is STUNNING.

Origins GinZing™ Refreshing Eye Cream: This literally works right away and is worth the $30 for the full size. It 100% wakes up your eyes and gets you going in the am, which for me…is needed!

Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy; Nude: A lot of people had an issue with saying this burnt their lips, you have to make sure you’ve exfoliated your lips first. I personally like this product and will be trying it out in the other colors.

SEPHORA COLLECTION LashCraft Length & Volume Mascara: Haven’t tried this yet but I’m always a huge fan of getting mini mascaras in these boxes for when I travel.

CLINIQUE Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturizer: it’s supposed to help those with oily skin. I’ve only used it twice so far but it’s helped. I noticed my skin half way through the day wasn’t as bad as usual and didn’t need to powder so much. I’m going to give it a few more days but so far I’m happy with it! Clinique always produces killer products, no questions asked.

Marc Jacobs Fragrances Divine Decadence:  This fragrance to me is best for Fall/Winter, it has a woody yet floral smell. Marc Jacobs never lets me down!

I personally believe Sephora Play has the best monthly box, for $10 you get well known higher end brands to try before you purchase the full size. Theres only been 1 month out of the last 6 that I didn’t really care for my items. One month I was missing one but luckily it was something I didn’t want to try anyways.

Target Beauty Box

This box is something that goes lives usually the first couple days of each month. Their boxes range from $7-$14 depending on what kind of items are in the box. I tend to purchase this one every 2-3 months. They do a great job on adding a little bit of everything into this box. Usually a shampoo and conditioner, lotion, face mask or wash, some sort of lipstick. I also use these products when I travel.

Masque Bar Hydrating Peel Off Mask:
A skin-moisturizing sheet mask that gently removes impurities and dead skin cells as it hydrates and soothes your skin with cucumber extract, aloe, collagen and vitamin E.

Raw Sugar Raw Coconut and Mango Body Wash:
Gently brightens and soothes your skin while locking in all the good oils, vitamins and enzymes that skin needs to look and feel amazing. It smells delicious, too.

Soap and Glory Face Soap and Clarity Face Wash:
A non-drying, easy-rinse formula that smoothes and purifies your skin, leaving it super clean, fresh and bright. Made with superfruit yuzu and ultra-soft scrub beads.

Gliss Ultimate Repair Shampoo:
Infuses your hair with keratin to repair, strengthen and restore damaged hair from the inside out, preventing future breakage and leaving hair shiny and smooth.

Gliss Ultimate Repair Conditioner:
Infuses your hair with keratin to repair, strengthen and restore damaged hair from the inside out, preventing future breakage and leaving hair shiny and smooth.

Sun Bum Sunless Self-Tanning Towelette:
An easy-to-use, clear formula for the face and body that exfoliates, moisturizes and works with the proteins and amino acids in your skin to produce a natural sunless tan.

W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Pro Mascara:
Creates bold, nourished lashes with pure mineral pigments and a botanical blend. A unique brush lengthens each lash and delivers just the right amount of product, preventing clumps.

L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask:
A super-charged, pure clay mask that removes impurities and soothes your skin in just 10 minutes using natural ingredients for a spa-like experience. I’ve heard amazing things about this mask so I’m looking forward to trying this.

(info for these products were taken from, I haven’t tried some of the items yet but wanted to give you more details on what they do.)

T3 Micro Wand Tutorial & My Favorite Products.

Hey Ladies, Hope everyone is having a fabulous day! Today I wanted to show you how I use one hair tool to get two different size curls as well as the products I use to keep my hair healthy in the process.

Below you will see how I transform my hair from straight to wavy and kinky curls!!

Just blow dried my hair straight and now ready to start the fun!

Above I’m using my T3 Micro Whirl Convertible (say that 3 times fast, I dare you!) You can achieve two different sized curls from this wand! If you want more loose curls, you start curling your hair from the bigger end of the wand to the smaller end. If you’re looking for kinky / smaller curls you can simply curl your hair all at the smaller end of the wand. I did two different size curls below so you can see the difference. The Whirl Convertible is my favorite size they have, I’m always switching up what size curls I want and this wand gives me both! You can click here to purchase and find more of their wands!

Below is my loose curls.

If you run your fingers or a brush through them, they will loosen up even more.

Below is my kinky/small curls.

I always feel super sassy when I do smaller tighter curls, I love them! ha

Now, below I will show you some products I use to help my hair stay healthy and also some that I use to add volume or to style. I’m not paid by these brands, I just like them and it’s what I use. I also do change up my hair products every other month or when they run out. I like to try new things and I believe its the only way you really know what you love and what doesn’t work for you!

So above are the current hair products I use while my hair is either wet or when it’s styled.

  • Philip B – Jet Set Hairspray : I use this daily. #heavensent #1
  • It’s a 10 – Miracle Dry Oil Spray: I use this when my hair is frizzing & not listening to me, a little goes a long way! I’m almost out though! #2
  • Umberto – Lifting Powder: I use this when I want some major volume at my roots, no joke, use the TINIEST bit! This is something you want to build up gradually, if you use too much you will need to wash your hair again, lol. Trust me — been there. #3
  • L’Oreal -Frizz Taming Serum: I also use this for frizz, I switch between this and the “Its a 10” #4.
  • Goldwell- Kerasilk Color Protective Blow-Dry Spray: I use this daily to protect my hair before I curl it. It goes on your hair before or after, I use it after, right before I curl my hair. #5.
  • RedKen- Satinwear 02 Blow-Dry Lotion; This is a gel. I personally use this every other day but I need to remember to use it everyday. This also protects your hair from heat. #6.
  • It’s Miracle De‑frizzing Gel: I use this a lot in the summer, humidity doesn’t like my hair. #7.
  • Eva NYC Forget Me Knot Dry Conditioner- I use this to help my hair feel soft after day 2 of dry shampoo and not washing it! ha, who’s with me? #8

** I have micro- link extensions, they were done by Gina;  @glamyourhair in Maryland, I love my hair and I’ve had them now for almost 2 months, no complaints so far and these are my favorite kind. I’ve had them all — just ask, these haven’t damaged my hair. If you use her services, you can get $50 by telling her you were referred by me. It’s good towards installation.**

I hope you liked my hair post! I will be doing YouTube videos soon, so be on the look out! My youtube channel is link here, feel free to follow.

Microlink Extensions By Gina @glamyourhair

I had the best experience with Glamour Hair Extensions Boutique in Wheaton, MD. Gina from @glamyourhair is the owner and who made me go from basic to chic! Being in her chair was honestly such a good time, we laughed, shared stories and was able to connect. I personally love being able to get to know more about my stylist. I think it’s important to not only find a professional who can provide you a great service but also provide a great experience as well.

Above is a before photo.

I’ve had every type of hair extensions you can think of and the Microlink is my favorite so far. Gina provides the following services: hairtalk ( formerly hotheads) tape installation, brainless weaves, fusion, microlinks, traditional weaves, one step extension & more.

Full head installation includes between 6-8 bundles, we used 7 bundles for my hair! Installations takes about 2-4 hours depending on how much hair you have.

The prices below are based on 20 or 24 inches, she has other lengths as well.
– full install: $599 20 inch with installation
– full install: $699 24 inch with installation
– 20 inch by bundle: $100
– 24 inch by bundle: $120

Maintenance: every 8-10 weeks $250 — Maintenance takes the same amount of time as install. All clips are opened and extension moved back close to the scalp. Clients should shampoo their hair before their appointment so that the extensions are clean and ready for maintenance.

If you mention you found out about her salon from me, you will get a $50 credit on any installation! Take advantage of her offer, she doesn’t do discounts!!!

Above is a photo of the micro links being installed.

Installation for mine took about 3 hours, she then layered my hair to the way I requested and then curled my hair as well. I don’t let many people touch my hair since my Grandma and Mom are both stylists but Gina layered my hair perfectly and listened to what my wants and needs were. She did a little at a time and had me check to see how it was laying. I appreciate the little things like that. I’m sure you have had a bad experience when someone cuts too much, lol. Don’t you hate that? Gina is amazing at what she does and I will trust her with my hair in any situation now!

The finished product, amazing right? I could die!

I waited a few weeks to write this post because I wanted to test the quality of the hair, how the micro links felt in my hair and etc.

Let’s start by saying the quality of the hair is great, no complaints at all. I’ve had extensions before where they should shed worse than my dog, which is annoying. That didn’t happen with these.

The micro links themselves are a little weird at first because I wasn’t used to them, they are flat so when you sleep it doesn’t hurt. For the first 2-3 days they are a little tight, not to the point of pain though. I also changed up how I treated my hair, you must treat this hair like it’s your baby. Not only because you spent money on it, but you have to take care of it. I also condition my hair every other day now and use hair masks as well. I use a lot of products on my hair so it’s important not to dry the hair out.

I’ve gotten a question also about how heavy the hair is. This is the lightest my head has felt with extensions. I used to do a lot of sew-ins and it really weighs down your head and hair. I feel like with the microlinks it’s a lot less pressure on your scalp and the hair that it’s connected to. Again, this is just my opinion. All extensions can damage your hair if your stylist doesn’t install them correctly or you treat your hair bad. So remember, find a good stylist aka Gina and take care of your hair.

Another tip on brushing your hair with the microlinks in: Hold your hair at the scalp and then brush, you never want to brush and pull hard on your extensions. They could either loosen up or even fall out. Again, remember – baby these extensions!! I also always brush my hair after the shower and before bed I either put it into a braid or two, or even ponytail it, you don’t want to sleep with wet hair and have a bunch of knots when you wake up.

Feel free to reach out to me or Gina if you might have any other questions about the service! My email is!

Color Reviving Gloss x Tonya Michelle

I’m thrilled to be working with Madison Reed again and this time I’m showing you how I’ve been maintaining my hair color with Color Reviving Gloss. I use the Expresso color, deep smoky ash tones. The color reviving gloss neutralizes any brassiness and adds depth to your hair. Below is a video with some quick steps on how to use the product!

This Color Reviving Gloss is infused with keratin, organ oil, and ginseng extract to gently condition and add some healthy shine to your natural OR colored-treated hair.

How to use:

Apply directly to dry hair, wait 20-35 minutes, and wash out for a sheer tint that enhances color and adds shine. Use every 2-4 weeks or 6-8 shampoos. Two uses in each tube.

There is 6 different colors available and you’re able to use their online program to choose what’s best for you and what you’re trying to achieve.

For me hair care is one thing that it very important to me. You have to take care of your hair ladies, it’s so important for growth and shine. Taking less than 40 mins every 2-4 weeks is nothing. I love having my “pamper Tonya days” — there is just something about taking a little time to care for yourself.

Professional Hair Care at Home x Madison Reed

I am SO excited about this collaboration. My hair hasn’t looked this fresh in years.

“From color-matching and caring for your color, to step-by-step guidance of your at-home hair color experience…our personalized approach to service ensures you can color with total confidence.”

Sit down and get ready for your hair game to be changed.

While writing this I am whipping my hair back and forth because it looks AMAZING thanks to Madison Reed. Growing up my grandmother and mother were both hair dressers, owned their own salon and would constantly tell me “Never do box dye”.  I didn’t understand why until I went away for college and damaged my hair with the normal box dye. At the same time who wants to spend hours in a salon chair and spend over $200 dollars for hair care every 4-6 weeks? Not me. Sadly I haven’t hit the jackpot yet or became famous — crossing my fingers.

With that being said, I have a solution! Madison Reed provides the best hair coming system and it arrives right at your mail box! They give you a short quiz on the type of hair you have and what you’re looking for, your very own person consultant. What’s better than that? The price! You can do one box for $24.95 or get a discount if you choose to have it delivered every few weeks. You can choose from between every 2-8 weeks, you can also add an extra tube for longer hair for $10!

Above is one of the packages I received, I got two tubes because I also died my hair extensions (not in these photos or the video below), 2 pairs of gloves, shampoo and conditioner, cleansing wipes (for any dye that ends up on your skin), barrier cream which you put around your hair line (you’ll see me demonstrate in the video below) and a cap!

Below is a link to my Instagram video where I am show how easy this process is to do at home, it’s obviously sped up to be 40 seconds. The whole process took me about 45 mins from start to finish (35 mins was leaving the dye on)

Direct link to how easy dying your hair at home can be: here

My natural hair color is dark brown, after being in the sun all summer it lighten up so I went darker for winter. The color the online questionnaire picked out for me is called “Pescara Black” – 2NNA – Deepest caviar black. The color came out perfect and it didn’t irritate my scalp at all.  When I have used box dye in the past it would make skin dry, flaky and sometimes it would burn so much I’d get a sore on my scalp. I am so thankful for finally finding Madison Reed. Their dye is free from: PPD, phthalates, ammonia, resorcinol, parabens & gluten. And it sure does make a huge difference on the way my hair feels, my scalp feels and how the color looks.

Madison Reed also has other hair care products which I adore. The styling cream is color protecting! Which means it’s sulfate-free which keeps the color from fading. Click here for more information on the styling cream and direct link to purchase. The tame is perfect for “taming” frizz, not weighing your hair down and helps protect your hair from fading just like the styling cream. Click here for more information on the tame and direct link to purchase.

You can also purchase the both together a set and you can save a some money!

Direct link to purchase the set is here.

Their shampoo and conditioner is NEEDED for locking in color, protecting hair from UV rays and gives your hair a shine that is unbelievable. My boyfriend couldn’t keep his hands off my hair! You can purchase them separately or as a set and save over $10! Direct link to purchase the set: here

Click here to learn more about their color reviving hair gloss & purchase. They also carry accessories such as pro-color brush and bowl, salon smocks, and more!

I know when I discovered Madison Reed it’s been a game changer for me and how I treat my hair. I hope this helps other women and even men who want to have royal treatment for their hair but be able to do it in the comfort of their own home.

Beyond the Beauty & Me!

Hey Hey Ya’ll,
I’m back with some goodies I want to share with you, thanks to Beauty the Beauty! (They are pampering my hair and it’s been much needed.)
I got these hair products in about a week ago, and the hair gods have been good to me since. I blow dry, straighten or curl my hair 5 days a week and lately my hair has been screaming “Help Help!” I know I shouldn’t do so much to my hair, but I can’t help it. Dry shampoo is also one of my best friends, which will be coming in a blog post later. I live by it. So let’s get into how these products are helping me get that extra sass in my hair!!
The Olea hair mask is great for my hair because sometimes I use box dye.  I know, I know, it’s not good to use box dye but sometimes a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do! This hair mask has helped put some moisture and shine back into my hair and who wouldn’t want that? The E Serum has also helped me keep my locks shiny and under control during this summer humidity. I use this product probably twice a week and already I’m noticing a little bit goes a long way! I swear, in Virginia we skipped spring and went right into crazy temperatures. Thankfully, this shampoo and conditioner has helped with hydration, leaving both my hair and scalp feeling regenerated – no doubt due to the Olive Oil in them both, which I personally love. I’m that girl who only uses conditioners on my ends and probably only twice a week. The shampoo I use every day or every 2 days. These products range in price from $0.75 (for the samples) to $20-$120 for the complete set.

If you use the coupon code “tonyamichelle50” you will receive 50% off of your order and FREE shipping.
This code is only good until Tuesday, so treat yourself to some “beautiful locks” over the holiday weekend!

I also received this complete set!
hairsetThe set includes a regular sized straightener, a mini sized straightener, and a volume curling tool.
The complete set retails for $499.99 but again you can use the coupon code “tonyamichelle50” for 50% off! What I love about this set the most is the mini. It fits perfectly into your purse, work bag, gym bag or carry on. If you’re anything like me – you’re always on the go, and might need to touch up that do! Haven’t had the chance to play around the volume tool yet but that is on my agenda this weekend while I get ready to celebrate the 4th and eat everything possible. Any diet companies reading this? Email me! I’m gonna need a good workout after this weekend. Ha Ha.
